The Pet Blessing service
Fripp reports on our annual Pet Belssing service
On Sunday 3rd September we had our annual Pet Blessing Service. It was no surprise, of course, that Rev’d Jane asked me to write a review. As you probably know, I write my own daily blog called The Adventures of Fripp and I have become something of an internet sensation with many followers. This has not gone to my head at all, though I do feel that sometimes Nix does attempt to bask in my glory.
Anyway, I decided not to take my normal pew but to be at the entrance to greet all the pets as they arrived. I did wonder if the cat that came last year who came out of its basket might arrive, but sadly, there was no sighting. Then I thought I did see a cat, but it turned out to be a rabbit with very long hair. There were quite a few dogs, all really rather well-behaved and best of all, the moving shell came back…apparently he’s about 70 years old. There were also lots of stuffed toys which interested me. To be honest, they were more interesting than the rabbit and definitely more interesting than the moving shell who couldn’t really move very far as he was in a cardboard box.
The Dogs Trust
A lady from the Dogs Trust came to speak about the work that they do and that was very interesting. They have a doggie food bank now and also dog beds and coats and all sorts of things that people can have if they can’t afford to buy them themselves. We took up a collection for the Dogs Trust, so I hope they got lots of money.
Then came the time for the pets to get blessed. I got blessed by Sally because she always sits with me when Nix goes to take communion. Nix took a photo of a friend’s two dogs who live in California, and they got blessed by Rev’d Jane.
At the end, we all sang a lovely song about wiggly worms and things and that was great fun, and then we all headed over to the church hall for tea and cakes. We had some of Sheila’s raspberry and lemon cake which was very yummy and the proceeds of that will go to the St Francis Fund.
Can I just say that Nix will try to make out that I slept through the entire service, but this is not true. Everything you read here came from my very own observation.
